Doug La Rue grew up in Dallas, Texas and being the offspring of an engineer father and an artist mother he quickly found a passion for art and design. Doug began drawing hotrods, dragsters and skateboarders in the second grade and by the third grade was selling them for a nickle each during music class. La Rue interned with 3 professional photographers before graduating from High School and won every art and photo contest he entered during this time including the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship and was inducted into the National Quill and Scroll Honor Society for Photojournalism.
In college, La Rue worked as a photojournalist and provided images for United Press International and Associated Press, was on the board of directors for the A&M Camera Committee, taught classes in photography on campus and even made the Dean's List while completing a degree in Environmental Design (Architecture and Design for Human Interaction) from Texas A&M University in 1987. After several courses in Art History he began painting abstract images that are inspired by personal ethereal experiences. Surprisingly, the professors at Texas A&M were very diverse and came from all over the world which provided students with a wide range of artistic views on art, design and architecture.
After graduation, LaRue took a position at the Texas Veterinary Medical Center as a Medical Illustrator which was an excellent opportunity to focus on technical / realistic illustration of living things which led to a rewarding period of employment from a series of major publishers like Steck Vaughn, Holt Rinehart, Taylor and The Littlest Book Company .
LaRue is a former board member of the Austin Coalition of the Arts. His work has appeared in various galleries around Texas and was invited to hang an award winning piece in the Texas State Capitol.
LaRue is the owner owned Glaze Studio, a creative visual media studio specializing photography, video and graphic arts productions.
